Maintenance of solid wood tabletops is essential to maintain their beauty and extend their life. Here are some practical tips for maintaining solid wood tabletops:
1. Avoid direct sunlight:
Prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause solid wood tabletops to fade in color and crack in the wood. Try to place the table away from direct sunlight, or use curtains or blinds to reduce the impact of sunlight.
2. Use mats and tablecloths:
Using mats or tablecloths on the tabletop can reduce the direct contact between heat and moisture and the wood, thereby reducing the risk of cracking.
3. Gentle cleaning:
Clean solid wood tabletops regularly with mild soap and water, and avoid using corrosive chemicals that may damage the wood. After cleaning, wipe dry with a soft dry cloth.
4. Wax or oil regularly:
Wax or oil solid wood tabletops every few months to form a protective layer, lock moisture inside the wood, and reduce cracking caused by dryness. Choose the right wood wax or oil and follow the product instructions.
5. Avoid overloading:
Do not place heavy objects on the tabletop, which may cause the tabletop to bend or crack.
6. Use insulation pads:
Place hot utensils on insulation pads to avoid direct contact with the solid wood tabletop and reduce the impact of heat on the wood.
7. Avoid rapid temperature changes:
Rapid changes in temperature will cause the wood to expand and contract, increasing the possibility of cracking. Try to avoid placing hot utensils directly on the solid wood tabletop.
8. Move and place with care:
Be careful and place with care when moving the solid wood table, and avoid pulling and dragging to avoid damaging the mortise and tenon structure.
9. Insect prevention:
Solid wood tables are susceptible to termites. You can wipe them regularly and place an appropriate amount of solid moth repellent to prevent pests from infesting them.
10. Avoid humid and dry environments:
Do not place solid wood tables in places that are too humid or too dry, such as near high temperature and heat such as stoves and heaters, or in places such as overly humid basements, to avoid mildew and cracking.
11. Regular inspection:
Check your wood tabletop regularly for cracks, scratches or other signs of damage, and deal with them before they become a problem.
12. Use protective glass:
If possible, place a piece of glass 2 cm larger than the size of the tabletop on the solid wood tabletop to reduce friction with hard objects and damage to the tabletop from hot utensils.
By following these maintenance tips, you can effectively protect and maintain your solid wood tabletop, keep it beautiful and extend its service life.
