I believe that most friends will encounter sales staff saying "our furniture is logs" or "this is pure solid wood furniture" and similar situations when buying wooden furniture. So are logs and solid wood the same thing? Although there is only one word difference, there is still a big difference between the two.

1. What is log?
Logs are natural wood materials, without any added fillers, and no artificial splicing and veneer are performed, retaining the most original texture of the wood to the greatest extent. That is to say, after being cut directly from the tree, the wood board is made after dehumidification and drying. The surface and inside of the wood are the same. From the side of the wood, there are obvious solid wood grains. The furniture spliced with this "log" is called log furniture.

Therefore, log furniture refers to the outer skin of the furniture and the inner material are the same log material, without using any artificial board, and the craftsmanship requirements are extremely high, and the craftsmanship requirements of the craftsmen are also relatively high.

Advantages of logs

1. Logs have a natural wood fragrance and a warm texture; the craftsmanship mostly uses traditional mortise and tenon joints, and clear textures can be seen.

2. Long service life, more durable than ordinary board furniture; the longer the solid wood furniture of precious tree species is used, the better the color will be, and it has collection value.

3. Natural wood, almost no glue or other adhesives are used, environmentally friendly and pollution-free, no need to worry about formaldehyde problems.

Disadvantages of logs

1. Natural wood has low yield, complex production process, and high price.

2. Affected by temperature and weather, it is easy to get damp and difficult to maintain.

2. What is solid wood?
Solid wood is small pieces of wood glued together, made of a mixture of solid wood and artificial boards. The multi-layer boards, particle boards, density boards, ecological boards, European pine boards, rubber wood, solid wood finger-jointed boards, etc. on the market are all artificial synthetic boards, which can be called artificial solid wood, but it is not "logs".

The national standard stipulates that furniture raw materials containing 60% or more of solid wood can be called solid wood furniture.

Advantages of solid wood

1. After splicing and painting, the surface of solid wood boards will not be uneven and have strong plasticity.

2. Compared with logs, solid wood is less affected by climate temperature differences, has a small shrinkage and expansion coefficient, and has good structural stability.

Disadvantages of solid wood

1. Uneven glue application will occur, resulting in glue spots.

2. Different tree species and craftsmanship produce solid wood boards with varying quality.

3. The amount of glue used is large. If formaldehyde or other harmful substances exceed the standard, it will cause harm to the body.

3. Other differences

1. Different craftsmanship

The craftsmanship of log furniture production is relatively complicated: selection of raw materials, drying balance; wood processing (cutting, grinding, assembly, and re-grinding); paint spraying (rubbing color, base color, primer and topcoat, drying); packaging (inspection, coloring, dust blowing, packaging), etc.

The craftsmanship of solid wood furniture is relatively simple, which also saves wood and reduces costs.

2. Different textures

Logs are made from natural trees, and the original natural texture of the wood can usually be seen.

After various processes such as gluing, splicing, finger jointing, etc., the texture of solid wood is different.

3. Different prices

Due to the low yield of logs, complex production process, and natural harmless characteristics, the products and furniture derived from logs are more expensive, and if they are precious tree species, they are even more expensive.

The production process of solid wood furniture is relatively simple, there are many types of boards to choose from, the application range is wide, and the price will be lower. For example, the price of ordinary log furniture is at least more than 10,000 yuan, while the price of solid wood is about a few hundred to a few thousand yuan. If you want to pursue cost-effectiveness, solid wood is more suitable.
